The right to breastfeed

Under the Australian Sex Discrimination Act 1984, breastfeeding or expressing milk is a protected right. It is unlawful to directly or indirectly discriminate against, harass, or treat a woman unfavorably because she is breastfeeding. This protection applies across public life, including in workplaces, shops, cafes, and public transport.

A breastfeeding friendly space goes beyond complying with the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 and actively have welcoming attitudes breastfeeding parents.
