Our volunteer parent supporters provide a safe space for bereaved parents to talk with those who are going through similar life challenges. It is through the lived experience of our volunteer parent supporters that we are able to provide real hope, understanding and empathy. 

Sands peer-to-peer support is based on the following principles:

• All volunteer parent supporters must have experienced an early pregnancy loss, medically advised termination, stillbirth or newborn death in order to be selected as a parent supporter.

• All Sands peer-to-peer services offer bereaved parents and families the opportunity to talk about their baby in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment.

• Sands peer-to-peer services are delivered through a number of channels, including via the phone, email, online and face-to-face in local communities.

• Sands takes the safety and care of its volunteers and bereaved families very seriously.

Each volunteer parent supporter goes through background checks and initial training.

Ongoing support and training is also available to ensure bereaved families are

continuously receiving appropriate and safe support.
